Paris-the land of Bronze

Wherever you look in Paris, you find bronze in all its glory:

From a giant elephant (at the d' Orsay)

to a life size rhinoceros (at the d' Orsay)

and the workman's companion (also at the d'Orsay).

Fountains galore-here a memorial to Delacroix in the Luxembourg Gardens.

13 Rue Lille-St. Germain, Paris

Our apartment on the 13 Rue Lille. Built in the 17th century, the exterior was redone in 19th century.

The entry, covered in cobblestones with a hallway large enough for a small cart.

In the 17th century, individual homes were often built like mini-fortifications, hence these re-enforced oak doors.  The smaller sally port door, built into the larger double door,  for individual use, is on the right.

It's a long walk from the street door to the courtyard.

The central courtyard, our apartment was the third floor (second floor in France) window on the right.

The original water for the entire building (three sets of businesses and apartments five floors high) came from this fountain that is now a simple hose connection.

1st floor security with style. Ours was stairway C, the window to the left of Therri is a small cabinet makers shop.

The wear of centuries of footsteps on the rock hard oak steps hint at the untold stories of the lives of those who lived here in St. Germain, Paris.

So sad,it is time to leave13 Rue Lille.  Oh so fast did our time fly by in Paris.
