A Garden Fit for a Queen-Luxembourg

In 1615, Queen Marie de Medici had the palace and gardens of Luxembourg built to get away from the intrigue and bustle of the Louvre.
Just a minor palace and gardens by Louvre standards, Luxembourg was just what the queen wanted.
Today the pond is the home of ducks and a place to sail your toy boats.
The gardens are full of statues including many of the most important or famous queens of France.  This is Mary Stuart,  who lost her head to her cousin of Queen Elizabeth.

Too early for much color yet but here is a sample of more to come.

Therri  took a well earned rest by the pond, out of the picture to the right.
The queen liked oranges so this was the orangerie to keep them healthy in even the worst winter.

But even the gardens of a queen have to be livable by royal standards-here is a detail of the quality of the construction of Marie's home away from home.  The Palace is the current home of the French Senate.
