St. Germain-des-Pres is the oldest church in Paris, this building dates from the 11th century and is in the Romance style (heavy, thick walls with retangular angles and lines). The site has been a Christian Church since the age of the Roman Empire.
Its square tower was built to replace the older church that was destroyed by the Vikings during the siege of 885-886.
For a thousand years the faithful have traversed this square and entered through these doors. When we visited an Easter Vigil was taking place inside (hence no photos of the interior).
Dusk embraces St. Germain-des-Pres.
